Only have a long weekend? Skyros rewards even a short stay, as long as you resist the urge to rush it. Three days is enough to swim, see the town, meet the horses and still do a whole lot of nothing.

In short: For a 3-day Skyros break, spend day one settling in and swimming at the beaches below Chora; day two in the town and up to the castle, with a horse-farm visit; and day three on a boat trip or a quieter beach before you leave. Keep it loose, three days here is about depth, not distance. For a fuller trip, see our 7-day itinerary.

Day 1: Arrive and swim

Take an afternoon ferry or flight and settle into your base near Magazia or Molos. Walk down to the sand, have a first swim, and take an unhurried dinner at a taverna by the water. Do nothing else, you’ve arrived.

Day 2: Chora, the castle and the horses

Give the morning to Chora: the climb through the lanes to the castle and the Monastery of Agios Georgios, and an hour in the Faltaits Museum to make sense of it all. Retreat to the beach in the heat. In the late afternoon, drive south to meet the Skyrian horse, then a slow dinner up in the village square.

Day 3: Boat trip or a last beach

For your final day, choose your pace: a boat trip to Sarakino and the sea caves, or a quieter beach like Atsitsa on the green west coast. Have a last long lunch by the water, buy some honey and thyme to take home from Chora, and make the unhurried trip back to the port.

Making it work

  • Base near the centre (Molos or Magazia) so you’re not driving far in a short stay.
  • Pick two or three things, not ten; the island is best when you slow down.
  • Come in June or September for the gentlest weather and fewest people.

FAQ

What should I prioritise on a short trip? The beaches below Chora, a morning in the town and castle, and a visit to the Skyrian horse, with a boat trip if time allows.

Where should I stay for a long weekend? Near Magazia or Molos, to keep beaches, tavernas and Chora within easy reach.
