North of the popular sands below Chora, the coast opens out and empties. Gyrismata is the broad, breezy beach for the days you want room to spread out and the sound of the wind on the water.
In short: Gyrismata is a wide, open beach just north of Molos on the east coast of Skyros. It’s breezier and less busy than the sands directly below Chora, good for an afternoon with space to yourself, a long walk along the shore, and a swim when the sea is calm.
The beach
Where Magazia and Molos are the island’s easy, tavern-lined favourites, Gyrismata feels more open and elemental. The sand runs on, the horizon is wide, and the same north wind that draws windsurfers to the south often ruffles the water here. On calm mornings it’s a lovely, uncrowded swim; on breezy afternoons it’s a fine place for a walk with the wind at your back.
Who it suits
- Anyone wanting space and quiet near the centre, without a long drive.
- Walkers, for the long, open shoreline.
- Swimmers on calm days, when the sea lies down.
For sheltered, shallow swimming instead, try Aspous or Kyra Panagia. When the wind is really up, it’s Kalamitsa in the south that comes into its own.
Getting there
Gyrismata lies a short way north of Molos on the east coast, easily reached by car or scooter.
